The title "Hào Hoa" by composer Giao Tiên is undoubtedly one of the most iconic songs from pre-1975 South Vietnam. The first recording by singer Mai Lệ Huyền in 1971 for the South Vietnamese label Dư Âm was not considered a high quality technical production, even by the standards of the time. The song itself, however, was inherently powerful, with playful lyrics about a Hào Hoa (loosely translated as "an exceedingly charming man") who's seductive ways make his woman question his loyalty. Such a relatable story invokes feelings that hit a timeless nerve across eras and cultures...and so Hào Hoa developed over the decades into a classic that was reinterpreted again and again. In contrast to all previous adaptations of the song, Saigon Soul Revival took their inspiration directly from the original recording. Finding a delicate balance between vintage sounds and high quality production while tying it into the present with Blacka's energetic rap verse, this brings the style and panache of the 1970s into 2022

has been diligently honing his craft for years despite his
young age. As the 2022 finalist of Vietnam's most successful
TV show “Rap Việt”, Blacka has exploded on the rap scene,
setting the bar for new aspiring artists. He first heard “Hào
Hoa” “playing everywhere in Saigon” when he was seven
years old. So when Blacka heard the band playing the song
live in 2017 he jumped on stage and blew the audience
away with an impromptu freestyle verse. Two years later
when the band decided to include the song on their debut album, Họa Âm Xưa (nominated best asian album 2021 for “SONGLINES music award in the UK), inviting Blacka as a fea- tured rapper was a no-brainer. When the band made the proposal he immediately agreed, saying he felt “destined to be on that song.” However, he did so with some trepidation: “This is iconic music. It crossed my mind that I shouldn’t do anything to change the vibe, so I tried to connect to the original flavor of the song".
